Re-registration of existing SIMs and issue of new SIM as per ICTA (Registration of SIM) Regulation 2023.

From 31st October, 2023, the Information and Communication Technologies (Registration of SIM) Regulations 2023 come into force. All SIM holders in the Republic of Mauritius must re-register their SIM(s) within six months with the deadline of 30th April 2024.

All CHiLi customers have to therefore re-register their SIMs before 30th April 2024. The aim is to ensure that each SIM in use is registered in the name of the user. This will protect the user against all types of potential fraud, identity theft and other misuse of SIM.

ICTA, together with MTML CHiLi, have implemented a process to facilitate SIM re-registration for all customers:

The SIMs which are not re-registered till 30th April 2024 will be automatically deactivated.

From 31st October 2023 the New CHiLi SIM will be issued only after due registration and verification as per Registration of SIM – Regulations 2023.

For re-registration or issue of new SIM coloured photograph will be taken and verified against

  • National Identity Card photo retrieved from relevant public body data base for
    Mauritius Citizen or
  • Photo from the passport or such other identification document where the person is
    Non-Citizen of Mauritius.
Documents to be submitted for re-registration of existing SIM or for issue of New SIM –
(a) Resident Mauritius Citizen
i) Copy of National Identity Card or copy of the personal details of passport
ii) Proof of address – copy of recent utility bill (electricity bill/telephone bill/water bill) or any other proof of address.
(b) Non-Citizen Mauritius Resident
i) Copy of personal details of passport
ii) Unique Identification Number
iii) Copy of residential permit or occupation permit
iv) Copy of address proof – recent utility bill or any other proof of address

(c) Tourist in Mauritius
i) Copy of personal details of passport or any other valid travel document
ii) Copy of proof of address in Mauritius
iii) Copy of visa (wherever applicable)

(d) On Behalf of Tourist
A) Applicant details –
i) Copy of National Identity Card or copy of the personal details of passport
ii) Copy of tourist enterprise license or tourist accommodation certificate
In case of (d) Individual – Copy of Business Registration Number, in case of Company – certificate of incorporation
iii) Copy of registered address proof iv) Copy of authorisation letter for representative collecting on behalf of company
B) Tourist details –
i) Coloured photograph
ii) Copy of personal details of passport
